Using AVerMedia Live Gamer HD 2 on Linux
This card is not marketed as Linux compatible, but there always are workarounds when it comes to this OS.

There are two main issues with this card:
 - Capture card connects and disconnects when not in use, slowing down the system
 - I wasn't able to capture HDMI sound through the capture card

Connection/disconnection issue
As reported here and there, the capture card won't stay up as long as it is not used by OBS or some other software.
I worked around this issue thanks to this StackExchange thread.

Sound capture
I was able to fetch the video from the capture card, however I couldn't fetch the sound. To work around this, I plugged a male-male 3.5mm jack from the capture card audio passthrough to my computer's Line-In port. Alternatively you can connect the audio passthrough port to a mixing table.
