====== Using AVerMedia Live Gamer HD 2 on Linux  ======

This card is not marketed as Linux compatible, but there always are workarounds when it comes to this OS.

There are two main issues with this card:
  - Capture card connects and disconnects when not in use, slowing down the system
  - I wasn't able to capture HDMI sound through the capture card

===== Connection/disconnection issue =====

As reported [[https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/da4jy3/avermedia_live_gamer_hd_2_works_with_obs_on_linux/|here]] and [[https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/da4jy3/avermedia_live_gamer_hd_2_works_with_obs_on_linux/|there]], the capture card won't stay up as long as it is not used by OBS or some other software.
I worked around this issue thanks to [[https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/91027/how-to-disable-usb-autosuspend-on-kernel-3-7-10-or-above|this StackExchange thread]].

===== Sound capture =====

I was able to fetch the video from the capture card, however I couldn't fetch the sound. To work around this, I plugged a male-male 3.5mm jack from the capture card audio passthrough to my computer's Line-In port. Alternatively you can connect the audio passthrough port to a mixing table.
